Gauteng Whip Cracking Club

We aim to revive the dying art of whip cracking—one crack at a time.

Whips have been used since ancient times to drive cattle, motivate workers, and as weapons in some forms of close combat. Today, they are often seen as just an “oh wow” spectacle.

As whip makers, crackers, and enthusiasts, we come together once a month for fun. We make a lot of noise, but it’s never enough! Our goal is to revive and grow this incredible art, even in our little corner of the world—Gauteng, South Africa.

We invite you to join us on February 22, 2025, at the Voortrekker Monument for a club day.

On club days, we do plenty of whip cracking, sometimes whip braiding, and even a bit of friendly competition. But no matter what, we always have a great time!

Since joining in 2022, I’ve hit myself countless times, but I’ve always been safe and never seriously injured. That’s because we always use proper safety equipment and follow strict guidelines.

We also love to push boundaries—cracking whips through spaghetti, wrapping them around objects, and more! But don’t worry, our chairman Jaco Coetzee and other experienced members will ensure you have fun while learning the art. It’s easier than you think and more exciting than you can imagine. There’s nothing like the thrill of that first crack!

So come and spend a day with us.

You don’t just join a club—you join a family.
